For teachers

Kipi episodes are designed as classroom movement breaks: about 4 minutes, no preparation, starting with a warm-up and ending with a breathing exercise. Children can do them in place next to their desks.

How to use it in class

  • After a long seated activity, to burn off energy.
  • After break, to help the class refocus: the closing breathing exercise calms everyone down.
  • As a warm-up in PE.
  • On rainy days when you can’t go outside.

Getting ready

  • Leave enough room between desks for everyone to stretch their arms out.
  • Move bags and chairs out of the way.
  • A projector or smartboard is enough. Keep the sound on: every command is also spoken.
  • Videos play right here on this site, so it’s fine if YouTube is blocked at school.

Inclusion

  • Every command can be done seated: raise your arms instead of jumping, nod instead of ducking.
  • Commands appear in large text with an icon, so pre-readers understand them too.

Mission cards

Print the cards and pin them up, or use them for a video-free game: hold up a card and the class does the move.

  • JUMP!Jump with both feet together and land softly.
  • DUCK!Bend your knees and lower your head, as if passing under an arch.
  • DODGE!Step to the side the arrow shows, then come back.
  • FREEZE!Be a statue right where you are. No wiggling!
  • RUN!Run in place: knees up, arms swinging.
  • BREATHE!Breathe in through your nose for 4, out through your mouth for 4.
